Director/Assistant Director— Director/Assistant Director Pre-School

Compensation $12 per hour 18 hours per week MWF 8:30-2:30 pm

Job Description I. General Information

A. Qualifications 1. The Director/Assistant Director shall be a Christian with a love and concern for children and adults. Have strong leadership and problem solving abilities. A CDA/CCP certification, or an Associate’s Degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education, or a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education, AND a minimum of two (2) years experience working with children, and the desire to continue learning as evidenced by participation in additional workshops, seminars, conferences and training sessions.

B. Staff Relationship
1. The Director/Assistant Director shall be responsible to the Pastoral staff and serve as a liaison to the Preschool Committee. On an as-needed basis, he/she will appear before the Administrative Board.

II. Principle Function

A. The Director/Assistant Director shall supervise the overall operation of the weekday preschool and will be present to staff during all school hours. A designated replacement is
made when the Director is not on the premises.

III. Duties A. Administrative

1. Plan a program of education and care that is age appropriate in order that
the child meets his/her full potential for growth both educationally and spiritually. 2. Supervise teachers
in carrying out the daily education program. 3. Act as liaison with church leaders to coordinate the effective use of equipment and facilities 4. Make recommendations to the Preschool Committee
regarding staffing i.e. hiring and termination 5. Schedule substitutes 6. Attend professional conferences and workshops for self-development and to better identify and meet the needs of the staff 7. Assist the staff in participating in educational opportunities. 8. Ensure the staff obtain and maintain current
certification in infant and child First Aid and CPR. 9. Hold regular staff meetings for the purpose of planning and evaluation 10. Maintain a personal file on each child including health records, immunization records, and emergency notification numbers. 11. Prepare a budget to present to the Preschool Committee 12. Administer the program within the limits of the approved budget 13. Ensure proper maintenance of time cards for the staff. This information will be presented to the Church
Treasurer to be processed 14. Log fees collected. B. Duties to Parents 1. Be accessible to parents to discuss concerns and needs 2. Ensure for the spiritual growth of each child as defined by the UMC 3. Share with parents any issues of discipline and offer procedures for referrals with resource persons C. Duties to Children 1. Interact with children on a regular basis 2. Be accessible to parents to discuss concerns and needs 3. Ensure for the spiritual growth of each child as defined by the UMC 4. Share with parents any issues of discipline Staff hiring—ll staff, paid employee or serving as a volunteer, must pass a background check, and maintain the standards set forth in the Springville First UMC Safe Sanctuary policy. Kids on MAIN requires that the director, teachers, and aides have current evidence of successful completion of CPR and First Aid training every two years. Additionally, they must maintain any standards that the Preschool Committee may deem necessary to insure the safety of the students and staff at Kids on MAIN.

Candidates for employment must fill out the Kids on MAIN application, submit a resume, and give information necessary to conduct background checks and reference checks. Applicants will be responsible for the background check fee ($12). Additionally, the candidate must have proof of a yearly physical exam and biennial TB screening. After clearance on reference and background checks, thecandidate may be scheduled for an interview with the Preschool Committee. An additional interview
may be scheduled with the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC). Upon submittal to the SPRC for hiring, the candidate must submit a form signed by the candidate’s doctor to certify that the candidate is not suffering from any physical condition, communicable disease, or mental health disorder which
would interfere with the applicant’s ability to perform adequately the job duties of providing for the care and supervision of young children. The SPRC will make the final selection of an employee, in consultation with, and on the recommendation of the Preschool Committee.

According to the guidelines of the United Methodist Safe Sanctuary Policy, in order for a candidate for a staff position to receive clearance on reference checks and background checks, there needs to be no credible evidence (by a court or jury, a department investigation or other reliable source) to have
abused, neglected or deprived a child or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly negligent misconduct as evidenced by an oral or written statement to this effect obtained at the time of application. All background checks must be completed through Springville First
UMC’s Safe Sanctuary agency.
