First Time guests FAQ

  • Springville Methodist is an Independent Methodist church associated with The Foundry, a network of other Independent Methodist churches. The Methodist denomination was originally founded in 1784 by John Wesley, a clergyman and missionary of the Church of England.

Wesleyans believe in one God, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the Savior of all persons who put their faith in Him alone for eternal life. We believe those who receive new life in Christ are called to be holy in character and conduct, and can only live this way by being filled with the Lord’s Spirit. We believe in the Bible and seek to establish our faith and actions on its teachings. We believe God wants people everywhere to know Him and that the purpose of the church is to tell the world about Christ through its worship, witness, and loving deeds.

  • We can be found in the heart of downtown Springville. Our church building sits 6471 US Hwy 11 just a few blocks north of the four-way stop.

  • The building closest to Hwy 11 is our Sanctuary. In this building, you will find our Bluegrass and Traditional services. You will find the Word of Life Sunday School classroom just outside of the Sanctuary.

Downstairs of this building is our Fellowship Hall. Many different events take place in this space, including Standing Stones Sunday School classroom, JOY Club meetings, Springville Methodist Women meetings, AA Meetings, and many more.

The attached wing behind the Sanctuary is known as our Education Wing. There is a glass door with the Kids on MAIN logo. Entering through this door, you will find our nursery for all services and our Children’s Sunday School classrooms. Our nursery and preschoolers remain downstairs, and our first through sixth graders have Sunday School upstairs of our Education Wing. Our Children’s Department office and our Kids on MAIN office are housed in this building.

The building in the back is commonly referred to as the “CLC.” This is our Christian Life Center where our church offices are housed as well as our Contemporary service. On Sunday mornings during the 10 o’clock hour, you can find the following classes meeting in classrooms of the second floor of the CLC: Youth, Go-Getters, and Marriage & Family. Many ministries and groups utilize this facility as well throughout the week. KidSuccess Ministries, Inc and the Springville Community Mission operate in this building, as well as Hugs and Stitches meeting.

  • Our worship services are named based upon the type of worship you will find in the service: bluegrass, contemporary, and traditional.

Our Traditional service is our most formal service, being more liturgical in nature (Apostle’s Creed, Lord’s Prayer, acolytes, etc). Attire might be described as “Sunday Best” though it’s certainly not required. There’s no dress code here!

Our Contemporary service offers a more informal order of worship with songs of praise and worship you might hear on Christian radio. Those who attend this service vary in attire; some wear their Sunday best, some wear business casual, and some wear more everyday clothes. There’s no dress code here!

Our Bluegrass service is our most casual worship service. The band leaders are conversational in leading the service, and it’s not uncommon for their to be feedback from the pews as well. Again, there’s no dress code here!

  • We have a Bluegrass service at 8 am (in the building closest to the highway), a Contemporary service at 9 am (in the building to the back of our property), and a Traditional service at 11 am (in the building closest to the highway).

  • Everyone is welcome in our services…especially the littlest of God’s kingdom. However, we also offer nursery for every service on Sunday mornings for children up to age 3.

For our Bluegrass and Traditional services, we offer My Church packets for our little ones so that their hands might be occupied so that their ears might hear.

In our Contemporary service, our children (ages 3-3rd grade) dismiss during the offering to travel to the Traditional Sanctuary for a more interactive, age-appropriate sermon. After the service concludes, you can pick up your child in the Kids’ Cove (the glass door at the top of the bridge from the CLC).

We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month (outside of Lent and Advent). For these services, we invite all to remain in our Contemporary service so that the children may partake of Holy Communion with their families.

  • Ever get confused with some of our lingo? Here's a quick reference guide to help sort them all out…

    "KidMin"

This is used to refer to the Children's Ministry at Springville Methodist Church. This includes Sunday and Wednesday programming for children from birth through 6th grade. Tiphanie Gatgens is the Director of our Children's Ministry (aka KidMin or SVL Methodist Kids) tiphanie.gatgens@gmail.com

    "Children's Church"

This is offered during our 9 o'clock service. Children ages 3 to 3rd grade are dismissed during the offering to move to the Sanctuary where they participate in a kid-friendly lesson along with some Bible basics and liturgy (Apostle's Creed and Lord's Prayer). Children's Church happens every Sunday during the 9 o'clock service EXCEPT on Communion Sundays, where we invite all to remain in the service to partake of Communion as a family.

    "Sunday School"

This is age-based small group Bible study offered at 10am every Sunday morning. We have Sunday School classes available for all ages. KidMin classes (birth-6th grade) happen in our Education Building (the middle section of our campus with the glass door that reads "Kids on MAIN").

    "Wednesday Night KidMin"

During the school year, children (birth-6th grade) meet in our Education Bldg for small group Bible study. We meet from 6:30-7:30.

    "Kids on MAIN"

This is our weekday preschool/daycare where we serve children from birth to 4 years old. We do offer Summer Care for some school aged children as well. Maureen Waldrop is the Director of Kids on MAIN (aka KoM). kidsonmain35146@gmail.com

    "KidSuccess"

This is our weekday after-school program offered for school-aged children. This runs from 2pm-6pm every school day (not in the summer). Megan McEvoy is the Director of KidSuccess. director@kidsuccess.org

    "Youth (or Student Ministry)"

This is used to refer to the Youth Ministry at Springville Methodist Church. This includes students in 7th through 12th grades.

Michael Hicks is the Volunteer Director of our Youth (Student) Ministry. mwhicks1@mail.com

Hope this helps you sort through some of the "lingo" we toss around in announcements, in the emails, and in the bulletins. Please let us know if we can better define anything else for you!

  • We hope that you’ll find many friendly faces eager to say hello and introduce themselves to you, but at no point are first-time guests asked to stand or brought to attention during the service.

We do hope that you’ll fill out our Connection Card (in your bulletin) with as much information as you’re comfortable so that we might reach out to you for future invitations.

  • We have parking available close to the Sanctuary, in front of the Education Building, beside the Christian Life Center, and at the very rear of our property. Handicap spaces are available closest to both the Sanctuary and CLC doors.
